Emergency Preparedness List
Basic Supplies
- Water: 1 gallon per day per person (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
- Food: non-perishable (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
- Waterproof matches, fire-starter, lighters, etc.
- Tools to shut off utilities such as gas or water if leaking
- Manual can opener
- Whistle(s)
- Dust masks – N95 or Surgical masks + goggles + latex free surgical gloves
- Deluxe family first aid kit
- Flashlight(s) w/ extra batteries
- Battery-powered or hand-crank radio w/ NOAA weather feature w/ extra batteries
- Medications (7-day supply) and medical items
- Multi-purpose tool / Scissors / Knife
- Sanitation, feminine supplies and personal hygiene items
- Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
- Cell phone with chargers
- Family and emergency contact information
- Cash – in event of loss of power ATMs will not be working.
- Emergency blankets
- Map(s) of the area + Compass
- Emergency reference book
Consider the specific needs of your family:
- Medical supplies (hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc.)
- Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)
- Games and activities for children
- Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)
- Two-way radios (walkie-talkies)
- Extra set of car keys and house keys

- Water filtration
- Emergency / Camping stove with fuel
- Tent / Blankets and Sleeping bags
- Rain gear

- Work gloves
- Tools / supplies for securing your home
- Plastic sheeting
- Duct tape
- Extra clothing, hat and sturdy shoes
- Household liquid bleach – plain, not scented or color-safe. Can be diluted and used in an emergency to disinfect (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) or to treat water (16 drops per gallon)
